Teen Book Festival

We are 30 days away from the 8th Annual Teen Book Festival held at Nazareth College.  This is a chance for teens to come together and meet some of their favorite authors or new ones.  This is a FREE event for everyone!  It is geared towards teens and they get preference for seating during the author breakout sessions.  There is time to have books signed by authors and to meet other teens who love to read.
Here is the link to the TBF website for more information and a list of authors who will be attending this year's festival:  Teen Book Festival

Lorax Day display

Here is the start of my Lorax Day display.  I've made three 2 1/2 feet truffula trees that will be used in my book display.  Here is a picture of one of those trees and my display board:

I made the trees using a wrapping paper tube and a light weight fabric that I purchased from here.
First I covered the tube in white fabric and used a black fabric marker to make the stripes.  I hot glued a 4" Styrofoam ball to the the end of the tube. The top of the tree was made by cutting fabric into squares.  I did not measure them as I cut. The squares were roughly 5".  Using straight pins at the center of a square I pinned individual squares all over the Styrofoam ball.
*This picture shows a bowl for the base.  It was not stable enough for the tree.  A new base is in the works. An update will follow soon!

I will post the book display once the base for the trees is finished.  My wonderful husband is designing a base that will be steady enough to hold the trees.  Pictures will be up later this week.
Here's the book display with the Truffula Trees:

Enjoy!

Blind Date with Books!

I was inspired by some other displays similar to this one that I found on Pinterest.  I thought since February is coming up that I would make this display loaded with hearts and give it a Valentine's Day theme.

Here's what the display looks like:

Each book is wrapped with a copy of the barcode taped  to the front.  The sticker has a silly phrase enticing people to take it on a "date".  Take it home, show it your favorite spot so read, share it with your friends...  At the bottom of the sticker there is a line that reads, "This book seeks_____ lovers."  On the blank line I wrote the genre of the book.

My director also decided to do this for the adults.  We created a book review sheet that patrons (teens and adults) can fill out and be entered in a raffle at the end of the month to win a $15.00 Barnes & Noble gift card.

Banned Books Week

I'm getting ready for Banned Books Week (September 30-October 6) and I decided to make wanted posters of books that are banned, but are so popular that they are rarely in the library.  I was able to find a free wanted poster that I could download here and added the cover art to the poster.  I plan to laminate them and hang in the Teen Lounge next to my book display.  Throw in some flames and caution tape and here is what I came up with.
